Japanese cetilistat data now even more crucial The discontinuation of Alizyme’s irritable bowel syndrome product, renzapride, puts the spotlight squarely on its obesity project cetilistat, for which a licensing deal has yet to be struck. We believe that a deal hinges on the publication this year of six-month Phase II data by the Japanese partner Takeda. Accordingly, this study is key to the investment case, and we suggest that investors wait until data are published. Research type: Company Comment - Trial update |

Negotiating position strengthened The £10m Alizyme raised last week gives the company sufficient cash to last well into 2009, as well as strengthening its hand in discussions with potential licensing partners. Its investment case still rests on its ability to strike one or more licensing deals on its late-stage products, preferably with significant big pharma players. Show me the deal Alizyme faces a pivotal six months, with one or more licensing deals expected for its late-stage R&D portfolio, in particular for its lead project, cetilistat. We view Alizyme’s pipeline as unusually mature for a UK biotech firm, and believe that its share price is significantly undervalued, probably owing to previous management’s failure to strike a deal. Signing a licensing alliance would likely drive the share price in the near term. Research type: Company Comment - Interim results |
