Songo-Songo West
Aminex announced today that it has been awarded a new Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) in Songo-Songo West, adjacent to the producing Songo-Songo gas field and close to its recent discovery at Kiliwani North on the Nyuni PSA. Over the last six years Aminex has built up acreage now totalling nearly 30,000sqkm in the East African margin. This is an important addition, enabling the company to explore much of the area around the existing producing Songo-Songo gas field.

Evidence of value
With its first African exploration success, a 66% increase in the value of its US low-risk producing assets and over $18m net cash to more than meet current funding needs Aminex is looking stronger than many of its peers. Although its shares are trading below the value of its independently assessed producing assets in the US, we see significant opportunities for investors looking for evidence of value.

Eastern promise
On 15 May, Aminex announced an intended placing and rights issue to raise a total of £16.8m gross. The fundraising is subject to an EGM in June. On the same day, the company also reported that it had signed a 25% farm out of its Nyuni licence (Offshore Tanzania) to UAE-based Rakgas. We feel that the high level of exploration activity in Tanzania, reduced cost exposure associated with the farm-down, and the near-term commitment to drill makes for an exciting investment opportunity.

Underpinned value
Despite a set of encouraging updates that preceeded the recent results announcement, Aminex’s share price continues to fail to reflect the upside potential of its exploration acreage. Having spent 2006 laying the groundwork for an ambitious exploration programme, 2007 looks to be a high impact year for Aminex. Newsflow is expected from drilling programmes in East Africa, Egypt and the US. The current market capitalisation is more than covered by the value of the producing US assets.

More to come
Aminex delivered solid progress last year, expanding its portfolio, acquiring new seismic and bringing new gas wells onstream in the US. With new partners in Tanzania and seismic campaigns planned in Tanzania, Madagascar, Kenya, Egypt and North Korea, it is now in a strong position to firm up drilling plans for 2007. The company's annual results, announced on 27 April contained no surprises.
