Novartis actions key Antisoma’s investment case pivots upon decisions to be taken over the next year by Novartis, in relation to ASA404. In particular, when or whether the Swiss group will initiate Phase III trials of the vascular disrupting agent in additional indications. Good news on this might result in additional milestone fees and drive the share price. There does however remain significant risk of an unfavourable outcome. Novartis funding mitigates risk Antisoma is one of only a few companies in the UK biotech sector without a near-term funding requirement, boasting a significant cash balance thanks to a licensing deal signed with Novartis in April 2007. This to an extent mitigates the relatively high-risk nature of its business, and could enable it to grow through acquisitions as well as building up a US presence. Investors can expect significant clinical trial news flow to drive the share price over the coming months. Research type: Company Comment - Funding |
