Eye deal unlocks value Asterand’s licensing deal with Allergan for a programme targeting ocular diseases has unlocked value from a legacy, non-core asset that until now had not featured in our valuation model. We view the $6.25m signing fee Allergan has paid Asterand as high for a project still in early preclinical development. The deal has taken some attention away from Asterand’s first-half results, which show near profitability and indicate that management is turning the company around. Set for maiden profit Asterand’s full-year results indicate that the company is on track to record a maiden net profit in 2008, having restructured its UK service operations, saving £700k a year, and entered the current year with over £1m of service revenue already on its order book.
