DDD has announced that cumulative TriDef 3D shipments have crossed the 1m mark for both PCs and mobile handsets, underlining the broadening adoption of DDD’s technology beyond the TV market.

Industry outlook
According to NPD Displaysearch, total 3D TV shipments reached 21.2m in 2011, with some 50m likely in 2012. IHS iSuppli has forecast that 3D TV shipments will reach over 100m in 2014. NPD DisplaySearch has also forecast shipments in 2018 of 10m 3D-ready monitors, 17.7m 3D notebook PCs, and 71m mobile phones with 3D capability. Jon Peddie Research is more optimistic, saying that the 3D market for PCs could reach 75m by 2014, based on gaming as the primary driver in this segment.
