Investment summary

Despite any significant news flow, DEO's share price managed to trade above 30p the first half of March. Recently the share price has followed a downward trend to trade in a range of 26-28p. Weakness in the share price may be due to the market's anticipation of significant equity dilution due to the capex requirements of £112m for Phase 1 of the Perth field. FDP approval is usually not awarded without the company demonstrating that funding for the development is in place. The key share price catalysts in 2012 for DEO as we see it is are the unveiling of the funding structure, the extent to which the company will dilute the share price and the conversion of resources to reserves.

Industry outlook

Funding remains the key topic for discussion, more so as the anticipated date for FDP approval edges closer. DEO trades at a low $0.45/bbl on an EV/2p+2c, demonstrating the minimal value the market is ascribing to the company's resources, which also continues to make DEO a takeover target.
