Investment summary
The final module of a US filing for Epigenomics’ blood-based colorectal cancer diagnostic, Epi proColon, hinges on the outcome of a head-to-head comparison study with the FIT assay. The first participant has just been enrolled into this 300-sample trial, which will include up to 75 clinical sites and incorporate elements of prospective and case-control design; data from it will be filed in the second half along with that from an earlier pivotal 7,940-patient study. Epi proColon’s US approval and market take-up are central to the investment case, and inclusion of the Septin 9 test in US coding is a first step to reimbursement.

Industry outlook
Epi proColon offers patients a simple and convenient alternative to faecal occult blood testing, and should increase compliance for colorectal screening by addressing those individuals who currently do not participate in screening programmes. Epi proLung is an aid in the diagnosis of lung cancer from bronchial lavage using the SHOX2 biomarker.
