Investment summary

Helius's 2010/11 results showed net income of £72k, ahead of our forecast loss of £1.8m. However, the figures were boosted by a fair value gain of £2.5m on the sale of equity in the CoRDe project. Once adjustments are made for CoRDe and the Stallingborough earn-out (-£0.7m), both non-cash items, the results were in line with expectations. Overall, 2011 was a year where Helius reshaped its business, reducing costs and strengthening the balance sheet. 2012 should see a move towards commercial operation of Rothes and the financial close of Avonmouth. If Helius successfully generates a profit relating to development fees from Avonmouth, it could translate into significant upside for the shares as this is not being valued by the market.

Industry outlook

The UK has a significant requirement for renewable energy and we expect biomass to play an important part in helping the UK meet its renewable targets.
