Investment summary

The real value in Ilika will come from discoveries of new materials where the company gets to keep the intellectual property. If these new materials are commercialised and sell in volumes, then Ilika can look forward to a long flow of royalties. An example is the proposed new man-portable power supply being developed using IP jointly-held with Toyota. We value the business at 92p/share using aggressive assumptions that include zero growth from five years out. We estimate that each additional discovery could add 10p to the share price. Meanwhile, its technology would make an attractive acquisition to a number of materials companies. A proposed fund raising is currently taking place.

Industry outlook

Ilika finds new materials for renewable and clean energy applications that improve or enable future technologies such as batteries for electric cars or fuel cells. Its unique and patented technology allows new materials to be discovered and tested 10 to 100 times faster than traditional methods.
