Investment summary
KBC’s IMS reports a solid start to the year despite tough market conditions in Europe. Management reiterates its confidence in meeting full-year estimates although financial performance is likely to show its customary H2 weighting. We believe that acquisition opportunities are still being explored, despite the announcement that operations and finance director, Nick Stone, is planning to leave the business.

Industry outlook
KBC is an independent provider of consultancy services and software tools to the energy and refining industry. While political volatility in the Middle East and North Africa clearly presents some difficulties, oil price volatility and customer M&A activity should support consulting activities. The launch of Petro-SIM V4 is helping to drive software sales and associated consultancy activity.
