Investment summary
Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust (SST) has outperformed both its peers and benchmark, more than doubling in the last five years. Its strength is the consistent style, execution and management over the time of the mandate to invest in smaller companies in Asia excluding Japan and Australia. The relative weakness between August and October (resulting in SST ranking sixth in its peer group over 12 months) should be taken in the context of an investment horizon of three to five years. The manager is in her 12th year managing the trust and the consistent historic performance should provide comfort to investors.
